Russian news reports suggest a lighting strike on the aircraft caused electronic systems to fail...on a fly-by-wire airplane.

The only reason this is not far, far worse than the 737 MAX debacle is we already assume Russian jets are relatively death machines.

It’s going to be interesting to see what happened here. AV Web has this video of the plane coming in really hot and taking a BIG bounce before the right engine strikes and catches fire. So it was n’t on fire when it landed.

Worst case it has to do with the Fly by Wire

Its supposed to, if you build it right. The Superjet may not be built right.

I don’t know if anyone has tested how  a half-shorted fly-by-wire system works. If my experiences with malfunctions in car wiring harnesses are a clue, I see the similarities.

Also, this jet is a pride project for the Russian Federation. The investigation will be interesting. Maybe they can claim Ukraine shot it down.

I suppose they’re gonna blame it on the American parts of the jet, namely the avionics or something of the sort

I’ve been on a 737 with flaps that wouldn’t extend. If the captain hadn’t warned us about it, I’m not sure I would have even noticed anything different. He announced it because they did roll the fire trucks for us ( concern over high touchdown speed that could blow a tire probably)
